Partners may set their own Custom URL Slugs for Stores because setting short, memorable URLs makes it easier for customers to find and share content.
RELEASE SUMMARY
What is a Slug?
A URL slug is the exact address of a specific page or post on your site.
How it Works:
Brickwork automatically assigns a URL slug for every Store Page. The slug is determined by the Store Name. For example, if you add a Store by the name of “The Brickwork Luxury Slug Outlet" its default URL with slug is: http:// www.yourdomain.com/stores/the_brickwork_luxury_slug_outlet. Because the store name may not always produce the best default slug, partners can set their own. This means that even if a store is named "The Brickwork Luxury Slug Outlet", a custom_slug can be set to "slug_outlet" without changing the store name.
CUSTOM SLUGS FOR STORES
Considerations:
It's important to consider - when you update your slugs, you may see a short term decline in SEO for those store pages. Because the slug is used to construct a URL for a page, the SEO equity that was built up in your original slug will take a little while to catch up with your new slug. In addition, it’s imperative that you update any systems outside of Brickwork that might be relying on the URL; for example, if you have a third party syndicating store URLs to Google or Yelp.
Example Slug Update:
Store Name: The Brickwork Luxury Slug Outlet | Default Slug: /the_brickwork_luxury_slug_outlet |
Store Name: The Brickwork Luxury Slug Outlet | Custom Slug: /slug_outlet |
In addition, Brickwork will set up automatic 301 redirects from the /old_slug to /new_slug. If desired, a different store can now have a custom_slug that is assigned /old_slug, and this will not redirect to /new_slug when set.
Customizing Store Slugs:
To set custom_slugs, contact a member of the Brickwork Customer Success team, either directly or via support@brickworksoftware.com. They will provide a list of your existing slugs for review, and will update slugs once a list of custom slugs is returned.
